Resolving Adobe Acrobat Slow Opening or Freezing Issues

Problem

Users may experience slow opening times or freezing when starting Adobe Acrobat.

Solution

Follow the steps below to adjust the security settings which can improve the performance of Adobe Acrobat.

  1. Open Adobe Acrobat: Begin by launching the Adobe Acrobat application on your computer.
  2. Access Preferences: Once Acrobat is open, navigate to the menu bar at the top of the screen, click on 'Preferences' to open the settings dialog.
  3. Modify Security Settings: In the Preferences dialog, scroll through the categories listed on the left-hand side and select 'Security (Enhanced)'.
  4. Disable Protected Mode: Within the 'Security (Enhanced)' section, locate the 'Enable Protected Mode at startup (Preview)' option. Click on the checkbox to deselect this option.
  5. Confirm the Change: After deselecting 'Enable Protected Mode at startup (Preview)', a dialogue box will appear asking for confirmation. Click 'Yes' on the 'Disabling Protected Mode...' dialogue box to proceed.
  6. Restart Adobe Acrobat: Finally, close Adobe Acrobat and manually restart the application for the changes to take effect.

Important Note

Disabling Protected Mode can make your computer more vulnerable to security threats when opening PDF files from unknown sources. Only perform these steps if you trust the source of your PDF files and have additional security measures in place.
